New & Old Course (36 holes)

Thursday 01 Aug 2024

About the Course

Sunningdale Golf Club boasts a distinguished pair of courses that stand out even among clubs with the luxury of dual courses. The club offers a harmonious blend of challenges: one course presents a tougher challenge while its counterpart offers a more forgiving game, catering to various preferences from fourballs during weekends to singles, encompassing both expansive fairways and tighter, more precise layouts.

The Old Course at Sunningdale is revered by many as the premier inland course in the UK, a status it has maintained with minimal changes since its creation by Willie Park Jnr over a century ago. Set amidst rolling heather and towering pines, the Old Course continues to be a captivating challenge for both newcomers and seasoned members. Its enduring appeal lies not just in the challenge it presents but in its ability to enchant and invite players to linger for another nine holes post-tea, sparking the quintessential golfing urge for more.

Conversely, were it not for the illustrious reputation of the Old Course, the New Course might well stand as the pinnacle among the Surrey and Berkshire heathland courses, and possibly across the UK. Crafted predominantly by Harry Colt, the most esteemed golf course architect of his time and Sunningdale’s inaugural club Secretary, the New Course contrasts with the Old by demanding rigorous precision and strategic play. It scrutinizes every aspect of a golfer’s skill, often unraveling those not at the peak of their game or mental fortitude.
